Brooklyn Queens Expressway Final Design

Civil engineering consultant for portions of the final design for rehabilitation of approximately 3 kilometers (1.5 miles) of the BQE in Queens County from Broadway to 25th Avenue. Muñoz provided for:






Wards Island Water Pollution Control Plant Research Facility
Location: New York, NY

Project Description:
Munoz performed structural engineering for a new waste water treatment facility to be constructed at the Wards Island Waste Water Treatment Plant.  The buildings and overall facility is a demonstration project for a unique deconstruction process called “SHARON”.

The SHARON Building is a 25,900 sf facility with a second phase 12,500 sf addition.  Muñoz is also the prime A/E consultant for the Battery E Blower Building and electrical Sub-station.   The main structure will be the 196 ft. x 132 ft. SHARON Reactor Tanks, with a blower building set over the tank structure, a chemical building, and Blower and Heat Exchanger Building. 

The SHARON tanks will be a reinforced concrete structure set approximately 12 feet below the finished ground surface.  The blower building will house eight blowers each weighing about 7.5 tons.  The chemical building will contain nine tanks, each with a load of 23 to 27.5 tons.  The Blower and Heat Exchanger Building is to contain 14 tanks with loads of 7 to 7.5 tons.

NYS DOT Stormwater Outfall Mapping
Location: NYSDOT Regions 8, 0 and 11 Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Ulster, Westchester, Bronx, Kings, Queens, New York, Richmond, Nassau and Suffolk Counties

Project Description:

Muñoz performed Stormwater Outfall Mapping, leading a team consisting of 3 subconsultants.  This project provided for identifying, inventorying and mapping stormwater outfall locations in NYSDOT 8, 10 and 11, constituting Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Ulster, Westchester, Bronx, Kings, Queens, New York, Richmond, Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

The objective of the project was to locate, to record observational data and map certain stormwater outfalls from State Highway drainage systems.  We performed the mapping and data collection using portable GPS-equipment and software specified by the NYSDOT Operations Division.  We reviewed as-built plans/records available in the Regional offices; field data collection using GPS equipment/software and transferring data to our Company SharePoint site. We covered approximately 1,300 miles of highway in the 3 Regions.





Battery Park City Authority
Location: New York, NY
Owner: Battery Park City Authority
Project Description: Munoz provided engineering services for the Battery Park City Authority North Residential Neighborhood Utility Installations. This on-call engineering design services included the planning design and construction support services for utility installations of: Site 16/17, new high voltage electric service and gas connections for the new high rise building.

 

Muñoz provided closed coordination with the building owners, building developer and designers and with all utility agencies having jurisdiction.

34th Street Milling
Location: New York, NY
Owner: NYC Department of Design and Construction
Project Description:

Muñoz Engineering, P.C. is providing Resident Engineering Inspection Services as a Prime Consultant for Resurfacing at various locations, in the Boroughs of Bronx and Manhattan. Scope of work includes grinding of existing asphaltic concrete wearing course, resurfacing preparation, and milling operations.  Resurfacing of streets with a 1-1/2 inch asphaltic concrete wearing course is being performed by NYCDOT in house crews.


We are also providing management of the contractor’s work, monitoring site conditions for conformation with contract documents, inspecting maintenance and protection of traffic operations, and ensuring that a clean and safe environment is maintained.

Community outreach also plays a key role in this project. We are serving as the link between the engineering construction and resident communities, ensuring coordination with community boards and elected officials, development of a community notification network, and production of community outreach bulletins.







Hudson River Park, Segments 6 & 7
Location: New York, NY
Owner: Hudson River Park Trust
Project Description:

Muñoz is the civil engineer for the $80 million segments, of a continuous waterfront esplanade along the bulkhead , from West 25th Street to West 59th Street. Project elements include the surface treatment of piers 66, 72, 84, and 97. The piers will have new piles and decking, with accessibility to the public for active or passive recreation. Park improvements include the waterside esplanade, paving, railings, drinking fountains, irrigation systems, plazas, and combined sewer outfalls, which require repair, modification, or reconstruction.

Muñoz provided the verification and location, adequacy and availability of public utilities, drainage system design, and retaining wall design for segments that extend over 9,500 linear feet. We also inspected Combined Sewer Outfalls to determine the impact the project on these DEP structures, given their existing condition.

Hillview Reservoir

Location: Yonkers, NY
Owner: NYC Department of Environmental Protection

Project Description:
Access Roadway, Central Monitoring Building
Civil engineer for the investigation, preliminary design, and final design including construction support services required for site work associated with the construction of the Central Monitoring Building at Hillview Reservoir. Topographic and utility survey and design of site work including roadway alignment, roadway system, sidewalks, drainage, utilities, and erosion control are part of the scope of this project.

Access Roadway, Chlorine Addition Facility
Services include development of a site work design report addressing underground piping systems, underground utility structures, above ground site work including entry gate and roadway, sidewalks, parking, emergency generator pads, and guide rails. Complete construction documents, bid and award services and construction support services are also part of the scope.

Summary of project services:
