OCEAN WONDERS:

SHARKS! AT THE NEW YORK AQUARIUM

The three-story Ocean Wonders: Sharks! exhibit in the New York Aquarium on the eastern end of Brooklyn’s Coney Island boardwalk includes curved aquariums containing over 500,000 gallons of ocean water, providing a living sea for the more than 115 species of marine life within.  The building has a shimmer wall façade comprised of 33,000 aluminum tiles that move and undulate in the breeze, reminiscent of the ocean that sits nearby.

Delayed by damage to the calibrated tanks and wildlife housed at the aquarium as a result of Superstorm Sandy, this long-awaiting $158 million 57,500-square-foot exhibit opened to the public with much fanfare in 2018.
